Why the search exists
The name has lived on several suffixes and spent a year as AniWave, and every change sent people looking for a replacement. The shortest answer is that you are on the site the copies were copying: search by any name, every season by the cour, every episode dated, the Recently aired list, My List, and Watch now for your country.
GoGoAnime and 9anime
"gogoanime and 9anime" is a real search, because the two sites organised anime the same way and people used both. The comparison that matters is not which had more servers; it is which finds a title faster by any of its names, which keeps your place through a hundred episodes, and which works on a phone with a data plan. On all three this site is built to win: romaji, English and shorthand all open the page, Reached this episode keeps the place, and the app installs in two taps.
What to compare
Four things: how deep the catalogue goes and whether it takes the long shonen and the classics seriously; whether sub and dub are both reachable; whether the cours are counted the way the fans count them; and whether the site works on a phone. Here One Piece runs past a thousand dated episodes, the classics shelf starts in the 90s, sub and dub are one menu away on the service, and the season pages follow the cours.
"9anime reddit" and "9anime alternatives reddit" are the threads asking which address works and what to use instead. They are worth reading for the mood, and the honest answer is the same every time: the name people mean is this address, and for an anime you will rewatch, the specialist services on the Watch now list are the better second place.
