Finding an anime on 9anime: romaji, English, shorthand and filters

Type it the way you say it. The search understands romaji, English and Japanese titles, the shorthand fans use, voice actors and studios, and S2E5 to narrow to an episode.

Any name

A full title works, half of one works, the romaji title works, the Japanese title in its own script works, and so do the other names a series goes by: Sousou no Frieren opens Frieren, Kimetsu no Yaiba opens Demon Slayer. The abbreviations work: JJK, AOT, MHA, SxF, HxH. Words like "watch", "online", "free", "sub", "dub", "episode" and "9anime" are stripped before the search runs, so a phrase pasted from a search engine finds the series.

People and studios

Type a voice actor or a director and their series line up; type a studio, MAPPA, ufotable, Studio Ghibli, and the same happens. Type a genre word, "isekai" will not, but "fantasy" and "romance" will, and the search treats it as a genre.

Episodes

"jjk s2e5", "one piece episode 1100": the results narrow to the series with that episode, one tap opens it, the season page is the next. Long series use the continuous episode numbering the fans use, so One Piece episode 1100 is episode 1100 here.

Filters

The search page adds type, genre, year, status, country, original language and minimum rating, with a sort by popularity, newest, rating, recent update or name. Status narrows to ongoing or finished, which is the filter anime fans use most. Reset clears everything; the address bar carries the search so a list can be sent as a link.

Empty result

Drop one filter at a time. A season number counted differently, a title in another language, a film searched as a series: those are the three usual causes. The A-Z list shows the whole catalogue in one scroll.
